1.PRECISION
Have you noticed that you enjoy and get out more from texts that you can read quickly? These usually contain few complicated words and adjectives. They favor short to-the-point sentences that capture given points. This allows you to understand and remember the content better. Precision is the art of expressing more in less. It can be applied to both fiction and non-fiction alike. For example, compare a Thomas Hardy's nineteenth century novel and a Kurt Vonnegut contemporary one. Both are excellent writers but Hardy's prose relies on long sentences which were in fashion back in the day, whereas Vonnegut's books are characterized by fast-paced narration. This is of course just one among tens of differences between the two, but as far as speed of reading and understanding go, less is more.
